The Best Flowers To Help You Fall Asleep

Bedtime blooms that will have you nodding off in no time

If you wake up feeling shattered, but go to bed wide awake, then use one of these four flowers to help you relax and unwind. These flowers soothe our frazzled brains and make it easier to gently drift off to sleep.

Chamomile

It’s an oldie but a goodie – chamomile tea. One of the most ancient medicinal herbs known to mankind, dried chamomile is known for its soporiphic effects. Try cutting the caffeine out of your evening meal, and swap for a soothing chamomile tea instead.

Gerberas

With their sunny, showstopping colours, gerberas might not look like the most calming flowers, but they could help you enjoy a restful night’s sleep if you suffer from allergies or sleep apnoea. Placed in a vase by your bed, these colourful daisies release small amounts of oxygen throughout the night, helpful if your nose feels congested.

Jasmine

Placing jasmine in your bedroom could help induce a restful night’s sleep, as well as making you feel more productive the next day. The researchers at Wheeling University in West Virginia exposed participants to one of three conditions over the course of three nights: the scent of jasmine, the scent of lavender and no scent at all. They found that jasmine led to better quality sleep, with less tossing and turning, as well as lower levels of anxiety and improved focus the following morning.

Gardenia

A vase of gardenias on your bedside table will not only fill your room with a beautiful, heady scent, but could help you achieve a better quality of sleep. The scent of the flower relieves anxiety and promotes calm, perfect conditions for a good night's sleep.
