Floristry at the Chelsea Flower Show 2015

Prepare for this year’s ultimate festival of flowers

The RHS Chelsea Flower Show is not just about beautifully designed and landscaped gardens. As the name suggests, the world-famous event is as much a haven for florists and fresh flower lovers as it is for green-fingered types.

So, if you’re looking for some fresh ideas for floral displays around your home, brace yourself for a riot of colour and a wealth of inspiration at this year’s show.

Some of the country’s best florists and floral designers will be displaying their blooms to offer a wealth of inspiration. Keep up to date with the latest pictures and previews at the RHS website.

But the floristry stars are expected to shine brightest at the show’s annual Chelsea Florist of the Year Competition.

Chelsea Florist of the Year 2014

The cream of the crop

As we speak, florists the length and breadth of the country are frantically preparing for their entry into the prestigious 2015 Florist of the Year competition final, showcasing the very best in professional retail floristry. And if past winners are anything to go by, we expect the standard to be pretty high.

Run by the Royal Horticultural Society in conjunction with the British Florist Association – and hosted at the Chelsea Flower Show – the competition is divided into two categories: The RHS Young Chelsea Florist of the Year (age 16-25) and the RHS Chelsea Florist of the Year (age 26 and over).

This year’s brief was to design and create a floral cake for an Asian themed wedding. Following a number of countrywide regional heats over the past six months, the grand finale will take place at the Chelsea Flower Show 2015. Watch this space to see the winning entries.

Last year’s winners

For the 2014 competition, winners were asked to create a fantasy floral dress to be worn at a crystal themed ball – and the results were spectacular. Like the costumes you’d expect to see at an RSC production of Midsummer Night’s Dream – the intricacy and attention to detail was nothing short of outstanding.
