Hydrangea… notes from the florist studio

From spring to autumn, the Hydrangea is a firm favourite for florists worldwide.

A staple flower for weddings and events, the Hydrangea has a quality like no other. Treated with love and care, this bloom will keep on giving. Purely massed by themselves or harmoniously paired with flowers with similar shapes, colours and textures, luscious centrepieces can be created with the most beautiful results.

Hayford & Rhodes offer the following tips to help you get the most from your Hydrangeas.

It’s all about the vase…..

A simple mass of this particular bloom can be transformed with an expert choice of vase  -an oversized quirky selection or a vase with an interesting shape will instantly turn your display into fabulous!

A curious collective…..

Create a tablescape using numerous vases of cut flowers, a colourful sea of Hydrangeas, Roses and Spray Roses can compete with the largest floral design.

And if you’re feeling brave……

An abundance of cut flowers arranged into florist foam will create instant drama for any occasion. Hydrangea is the perfect base flower for any arrangement, size; impact and pure beauty make this bloom the perfect choice.

Tips from the Florist studio:

  • Hydrangeas love water, cut the stem on an acute angle with sharp scissors in order to ensure maximum hydration through the stem.
  • The Hydrangea drinks through the flower, spray your bloom with a fine water mist for an almost instant pick me up.
  • Keep it cool, the cooler the environment, the more your hydrangea blooms will repay you in longevity.
  • Whilst this flower, like most others, would be happiest in a deep vase full of water, foam based centrepieces are best made at the last hour to ensure the perfect bloom throughout the day.
