Iced Flowers

The aesthetic floral art of Azuma Makoto

Let us introduce you to the work of flower artist Azuma Makoto. Everything he does is aimed at enhancing the value of flowers and plants, finding unique and mysterious shapes within these wonders of nature. With an immense respect for nature and its preservation, he converts these fantastic elements into an aesthetic artwork. One such example of his practice is the exhibition Iced Flowers.

Iced Flowers

This frozen exhibition shows the life cycle of a flower, enclosed in a block of ice. By placing them in ice, flowers show unique expressions. Look on and wonder.

Iced Flowers

Azuma Makoto entered the flower business with a bang in 2002. The owner of haute couture floral shop Jardins des Fleurs in Minami-Aoyama, Tokyo, has been better known as a flower artist since 2005. Over a two year period, from 2007 to 2009, he ran a private gallery in Tokyo in order to exhibit his own work. Afterwards, he established an experimental floral laboratory called AMKK: Azuma Makoto Kaju Kenkyusho, which means Azumo Makoto Botanical Research Institute, and ever since, he's focussed on developing his art activities with plants and flowers. The exhibition Iced Flowers is a good example of this.
