Print your own state-of-the-art 3D vase

Pretty, printable – and planet friendly

These black silhouette-like vases make the perfect foil for flowers – and are so beautiful, it’s hard to believe they came out of a printer. Combining the eco-friendly art of upcycling with state-of-the art 3D printing technology, these innovative creations are the brainchild of designer Libero Rutilo.

Bottled beauty

The intricately patterned structures can simply be screwed onto everyday half-litre, plastic, water and soft drink bottles, which might otherwise have been thrown away after use.

“Of course, you will not clean the planet by recycling just one bottle, but if you have a chance to reuse one and turn it into a design object, it can be a first step towards environmentally friendly lifestyle,” it states on the Design Libero website.

The fab four

The collection includes four different designs: ‘Spider Vase’ inspired by the arachnid’s form; ‘Sinuous Vase’ with its fluid curves and waves; the classical ‘Lace Vase’ evocative of an Ancient Greek or Roman jug; and ‘Knitted Vase’ with its exquisitely fine details.

“The idea was to create a vase conserving only its silhouette. The vase itself represents an external shell with an inner neck fillet, so it can be screwed onto a bottle like a cap. The 3D printed structure dresses the bottle and makes it disappear under its mesh.”
