Magnificent in its simplicity ... and simple to make yourself!

What a sight, this ribbon-tied bouquet of lilies combined with Curcuma and sunflowers! This stylish bouquet has been hand-tied.  It’s not the easiest technique, but you're bound to be able to master it with these step-by-step instructions.

DIY hand-tied lily bouquet

You’ll certainly steal the show with this fantastic bouquet. Treat yourself, or gift it to someone else. This is what you need to make the bouquet:

  • Four lilies in two varieties you like
  • Three Curcuma flowers
  • Three sunflowers
  • A piece of string
  • A wide ribbon in a matching colour

How to make this fantastic bouquet

Step 1: Clean the stems thoroughly. Place all the flowers, the string and the ribbon within reach.

Step 2: This bouquet is hand-tied; that means all the stems point in the same direction. Start with the largest flowers. Place them against one another at the right height in your left hand, and add a flower with your right hand each time. Make sure you vary the flowers and turn the whole arrangement regularly. This ensures that the flowers in your bouquet are arranged attractively.

Step 3: Once the bouquet looks the way you want it to, tie a string around the stems at the point where you're holding the bouquet. Then trim the bouquet evenly at the bottom. Next pick up the ribbon and tie it around the bouquet. Your very own hand-tied bouquet is ready!

Tip: Sunflowers have hairy stems. If moisture creeps up the stems, your lovely sunflowers will turn mouldy, and that would be a shame! So make sure that there's enough water in the vase, but not too much.
