DIY: floral collar as a feature

For a last minute wardrobe update

What do you wear for the festive period? Do you go all out with an over-the-top velvet suit, a cute dress with a floral print or an outfit that you’ve already got hanging in your wardrobe? If we’re to believe style icon Iris Apfel, you should particularly invest in accessories, because accessories can change every look. Upgrade your festive outfit with a floral collar or choker.

You will need

  • An eye-catching flower such as a rose

  • An attractive satin, velvet or cotton ribbon

  • Needle and thread

How to make it

What do you want to project today, and how will you wear the accessory? Under your collar (which both men and women nowadays like to button all the way up) or as a choker? Try different materials and flowers to find the best combination of texture and colour. This floral accessory looks best with a flower that is in full bloom.

You can secure the flower to the ribbon with needle and thread. For the sturdiest result push the needle through the thickest part of the bud. You can supplement the flower with other jewels to give a luxurious look. Small teardrop pearls beneath a pink rose give you the Marie Antoinette moment that you might be looking for.

If you’re more of a plant person, two small sprigs crossed in a bow shape with some accompanying bling lends an original finish to your outfit.
