DIY: superior surface protection

Floral coasters for a French apéro

Do you remember the coasters that granny and grandad had on their solid wood coffee table? They weren’t always beautiful, but they did mean that their table still looked like new after 50 years. Luckily coasters nowadays are a lot more stylish. Take a look at these floral discs - they’re tiny works of art. And since you make them yourself you can add a pinch of your personal style a well. Our tip: make a couple of extra ones that can be admired all evening long without being obscured by having a glass on top of them.

How to make the floral coasters

Gather your favourite flowers and dry them in a flower press, or use a thick book. Whilst the flowers are drying, seek out a set of nice vintage glass coasters with a raised edge in the attic, at a flea market or in a second-hand shop. Check the flowers after a week: are they nice and flat? Stick them onto the coasters with a small drop of glue, place a plastic disc cut to size over the top and voilà: let the apéro begin.

If they’re looking good, share your creations on Instagram and don’t forget to tag them with #funnyhowflowersdothat.
