Fancy a dip?

Give your old vases or jars a 'dip art' makeover

Want to add an instant colour boost to your home? Get dipping! The dipping trend is the latest style-movement to take the interiors world by storm – and we reckon your jaded old vases are just the place to start!

The trend

With everything from lamp bases, bowls and cushions to kitchen utensils – and even paintings – looking as though they’ve just been dunked in a vat of paint, colour dipping is the perfect way to add your favourite colour to your living spaces.

Hot on the high-street

High-street homeware departments are awash with colour-dipped ranges, many of which contrast muted neutrals with a flash of neon pink or yellow. Lamps, furniture, kitchenware and paintings – nothing is safe from taking the colour plunge.

DIY dipped vases

This is one décor trend that is simple to recreate at home, and we're sure that once you've tried your hand at dipping, you would want to dip everything in sight! Here is how you can create your own colour-dipped vases, and it seriously couldn’t be more simple...

What you need:

  • Glass or ceramic vases
  • Glass or ceramic paints sold in a tin
  • Newspaper

Step 1:

Cover your table with newspaper to protect it.

Step 2:

Start dipping! You might need to pour out some of paint to make room for your vases, or you can pour some into an old tin or bucket if needed.

Step 3:

Allow most of the paint to drip off, and then leave your vase to dry on the newspaper… and voilà!

Tip:  If you want an upside-down dripping effect, you can allow your vases to dry upside-down which creates a zany gravity-defying look.

Now all you need to do is fill those vases with lovely blooms!  And if you have tried this easy DIY, we'd love to see them, so share your pictures with us on our facebook page.
