Six tips for a surprising Easter

Do something different with your flowers this spring!

Are you looking to stray from the traditional Easter decorations this year? Use new bold textures, colours and arrangements to bring out the best in your flowers.

Cracking carnations

If you very carefully remove the shell from a hard-boiled egg you can create a delicate vases for a carnation or two. Paint the rim of the cracked shell the same colour as the edge of the flower to enhance the deepness of the colour.

A mobile of tulips

Mixing richer burgundy colours with with paler pink tulips adds a more subdued feeling with the rustic hangers and glass vases offering a contrast with the different materials.

A bag of Easter delights

Everyone loves an Easter egg hunt, but for a contemporary decorative twist present individual flowers in a paper filled with eggs. The brown bag compliments the eggshells and lets the intricate leaves of the ranunculus in this display, whilst the batik-inspired cloth takes the simple design to another level.

Urban petit fours

A lush bouquet

Combine Ranunculus, Lathyrus, Pearblossom, Forget-Me-Nots, Parrot tulips and Bleeding hearts to create a lush bouquet. Once you've placed these in a vase, wrap some coarse material around the edge for a more rustic look.

An upcycled display

If you carefully collect the net bags that oranges and onions come in, then you can reuse them to create something quite spectacular this Easter. Pour some water into a large yoghurt tub, then add flowers - we love these Hyacinths, Narcissus, Grape Hyacinths, Tulips and Carnations - before placing them into the net bags and hanging them from rope. A great way to reuse your old fruit and vegetable bags!
