HOW TO MAKE THE PERFECT BREAKFAST IN BED 

When you think of the perfect breakfast, you might think of the classic option boiled egg, freshly squeezed orange juice and toast with your favourite toppings. While there's nothing wrong with a tried-and-tested option, we think that for this holiday breakfast can be a bit more inventive.

This toast with goat's cheese, fresh figs and edible flowers is guaranteed to please. Making it yourself is simple! This recipe feeds two and is the ideal romantic start to this day of love.

you will need (for two people):

  • 4 slices of bread (choose your valentine's favourite kind of bread, from wholegrain to sourdough) 
  • 2 tablespoons of butter  
  • 80 grams soft goat's cheese (vegan cream cheese or any other soft cheese you prefer will also work well)
  • 3-4 fresh figs, cut into wedges 
  • Edible flowers* (such as viola, rose petals, primula and marigold) 
  • Salt and pepper to taste 
  • 2 boiled eggs 
  • Freshly squeezed orange juice

how to make toast with goat's cheese, figs and edible flowers

  1. Heat a saucepan on the stove. Once the pan is hot, turn the heat down to low. 
  2. Lightly spread the underside of the bread with butter. Spread the goat's cheese (or other cheese) over the top and toast the bread for about 3 minutes in the pan on a low heat, giving the bread a nice crunch. 
  3. Cut the figs into wedges and squash them gently over the goat's cheese. Put the lid on the pan and let the bread toast for another minute.
  4. Place the toast on the plates and season with salt and pepper. Decorate the toast with edible flowers* and serve together with the boiled eggs and freshly squeezed orange juice.
