DIY: rose-scented sugar scrub

The rose is more than just a beautiful flower: it's also the perfect ingredients for a range of beauty products and tasty dishes. Rose water, for example, or Turkish delight, a soothing rose tea or a fragrant exfoliator. With Valentine's Day around the corner, a sugar skin scrub scented with roses is the perfect gift for your lover, your best friend, your mother or just for yourself...

TRIPLE FUN

This rose scrub has many positive attributes. Firstly, the wonderful rose scent gives you a relaxed feeling while you're using the scrub. Secondly, applying the scrub gently exfoliates, leaving your skin feeling silky smooth.  Sugar is quite gentle on the skin, so you can use the scrub on your face as well. Finally, applying the scrub provides the ultimate feeling of wellness and gives you a nice me time moment! 

You will need 

  • A mortar and pestle
  • A sterilised glass jar with lid 
  • 100g white sugar
  • 2 tsp honey
  • 3 tbsp dried rose petals
  • 4 drops pure rose essential oil
  • 150g pure coconut oil

*Check when you buy the rose petals whether they are suitable for topical application.

Get to work 

Grind the rose petals with the mortar until they are pulverized. Melt the coconut oil in a bain-marie and let it cool for a while, before stirring in the sugar and honey.

Add the rose petals and rose essential oil into the mixture and stir again. Once all the ingredients are combined, spoon the scrub into the glass jar. Enjoy!
